Lower
energy costs, a balanced
state budget
In late 2007 one
bureaucrat, putting his own opinion above state law, shut down the
creation of a multi-billion dollar power plant in economically deprived
western Kansas. Company stockholders had invested several million
dollars to meet all the requirements needed for a permit.
With one
stroke of a pen and neglecting the advice of his own agency, the
bureaucrat refused to approve the permit to build. Seeing the
unfairness in this, knowing the need for additional electricity
produced by modern, environmentally-friendly plants, and concerned
about the precedent that this arbitrary ruling could have on other
companies, our legislature worked tirelessly in a bi-partisan effort in
2008 to pass legislation to allow the Holcomb Power Station project to
proceed. In spite of their best efforts and concessions, the
Governor
arbitrarily vetoed all bills that they passed.

you to develop energy policies that are based on proven
science to meet our growing need for electricity and allow our economy
to grow, while preserving our quality of life in Kansas."
