Kansas GOP launches website to fight Sebelius lies

The Kansas Republican Party has launched a new website to fight the lies being put out by Kathleen Sebelius’ Bluestem PAC. Click here to check out the new website, kansasfactcheck.org. And click here to check out the original Kansas Trunkline post.

Sebelius’ personal PAC came under fire yesterday from a non-partisan group for using their name to spread lies about a Republican candidate. As the Lawrence Journal-World stated:

“By using the Project’s name to give credibility to these attacks, the Bluestem Fund is cheating the public out of their need for trusted, abundant, accurate, factual information.” Project Vote Smart also said it prohibits the use of its name and information in partisan ads. The Bluestem Fund is chaired by Sebelius and has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in recent months to help Democrats in legislative races.

More importantly, it’s critical that citizens know who’s behind the mailings. Not only does Sebelius twist campaign finance laws to have her own Political Action Committee, but only $30,000 or the hundreds of thousands raised came from inside Kansas. Roberts campaign sets Thornburgh straight

The Pat Roberts for Senate campaign set the record straight recently regarding voter registration in Kansas and the real reasons why Republicans will be victorious Tuesday.

All Republicans own a debt of gratitude to the Roberts campaign for all of their hard work and dedication to winning offices for Republicans in Kansas. Because of Senator Robert’s hard work, all Republicans down the ballot will benefit.

TOPEKA, KS, — Senator Pat Roberts today said the Roberts for Senate campaign’s comprehensive grassroots registration and advance voting program has increased numbers for Republicans in all areas.

“Our campaign has run a technologically advanced grassroots operation across the state working with our local candidates to produce a large increase in Republican advance voting,” Senator Roberts said. “I am proud of my team and despite Democratic momentum on the national level, we have been able to build a sophisticated advance ballot program that has already achieved results in Kansas .”

Roberts’ comments come today as the Secretary of State released new voter registration data.

As of today, over 106,000 Republicans have requested advance ballots and over sixty-seven percent of those ballots have already been turned in. Republicans requested 30,000 more ballots than Democrats. Republicans maintain a large advantage in voter registration with 287,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats. Due to the Roberts for Senate field operation efforts, Republicans gained 32,000 registrants from June to October of this year.

“As I said when I announced my run back in January of 2007, I am the top of the ticket in Kansas and I intend to help all Republicans up and down the ballot. I am proud to say we have done just that. I look forward to Election Day as our turn out operation will provide positive results for Republicans in Kansas .”

Senator Roberts has set in-state fundraising records for a federal election since announcing his intention to run for re-election in 2008. Senator Roberts is running for his third term in the U.S. Senate.

A summary of area and statewide voter guides

Update: A new website has been launched with ‘non-partisan’ voting guides. The guides are in pdf format and list ratings and endorsements from 12 different organizations on all the candidates for office, from U.S. Senate to State Board of Ed.

We’ve gotten several emails over the past few days about voter guides that are available on the internet for printing and distribution.

Here’s a list of some across the state and some national voter guides that might be helpful. It’s important to note that we don’t endorse all of the candidates that are listed on these guides. However, some issues are more important to some than others, so they are a good, quick way to find out where candidates stand so you can make your own decision.

KRA preferred candidates can be found here where they are listed by county or click here for the statewide list for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Kansas SBOE, Kansas House and Senate.

Kansas Taxpayers Network 2008 Ratings for the House and for the Senate. The lists aren’t very pretty, but if you have a specific legislator in mind, the numbers can be very convincing to undecided voters.

The National Federation of Independent Business has endorsements for both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The NFIB also has legislative ratings.

Kansans for Life have listed endorsements for the entire state here. You can also find county by county voter guides from KFL here. Johnson County residents can find their voter guides here.

The American Family Association has a profile of various legislators and candidates for Kansas here.

The Christian Coalition has an area on their website for 2008 voter guides, but nothing has been posted as of today. It might be worthwhile to check back in a few days.

Focus on the Family’s Citizen Link has an area where you can put in your address and zip code and it’ll give you a personalized voter guide. It’s not very helpful for printing and distributing however.

The National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund has candidates grades and endorsements for Kansas. The State Rifle Association has the same grades but in a slightly more printer friendly format here.

If you come across or know of any good voter guides that we’ve missed, please email the link (or where we can find it) to exec@kansasra.org so we can add it to our list.
