Sebelius takes contribution from convict..will the press report it..will she keep it???

What has been an interesting week in Kansas politics is looking even more promising this week. As I woke up this morning I was first greeted with the news that our esteemed Kansas Supreme Court might once again overturn the death penalty, this time over the definition of the word ‘or.’

If you’re surprised by this, don’t be. Sebelius packed the court with a bunch of liberals to get her cash for schools, so it should be no surprise to anyone that they’d want to push through a couple of their own pet subjects while they’re there. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again.

Then I got to reading my favorite blog, the Kansas Meadowlark. This is the same blog that broke the story of Sebelius’ trip to the Middle East at taxpayer expense. Of course, by the time it finally made it’s way into the ‘main-stream’ press, the story had been watered down considerably to nothing.

But there was a new story this morning on the Meadowlark, one that actually first broke in the comments section of a story posted on the Lawrence Journal-World. (The Lawrence paper, yes I know, how ironic.) User jmadison pointedly noted that Sebelius had taken a significant contribution from Norman Hsu, the
Democrats Jack Abramoff.

What I love about the Meadowlark is that it doesn’t just put accusations out there, it backs them up with irrefutable evidence, like the below campaign finance report. How do you refute that? (Well, you don’t, you just call on your buddies in the media to ignore it.)
Sebelius campaign finance report
Of course Hillary quickly gave the $23,000 in direct contributions from Hsu to charity (although she didn’t give back the indirect contributions that Republicans gave during the Abramoff scandal.) Does Sebelius know she’s taken money from a felon? Does she care? Will she give back all contributions associated with this man or only the contributions coming directly from Hsu? All great questions that probably won’t get answered in the main-stream press.

What will be interesting over the next few days will be if the media will report the story. Talk about embarrassing. I hope to see just as much coverage of this story as I did about Sam Brownback taking money from Abramoff. Not only will it be interesting, it is shaping up to be a true test of fairness in Kansas media. Don’t hold your breath.

Fund-Raiser Norman Hsu Skips California Bail Hearing

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Democratic fund-raiser Norman Hsu skipped a bail hearing on a grand-theft charge dating to the early 1990s, prompting a judge to issue a bench warrant for his arrest. …The judge immediately ordered Mr. Hsu’s cash bail forfeited, and issued a bench warrant for his arrest with no bail. …state prosecutors said there was little they could do now but wait to see whether Mr. Hsu turned up.

    From Fox News

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Disgraced Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu will be handed over to local authorities as soon as his health improves enough for him to be released from St. Mary’s Hospital.

“My understanding is that after he is released from the hospital he will be booked into our facility,” said Heather Benjamin, spokeswoman for the Mesa County sheriff, on Saturday.

She said she did not know what would happen after that, but the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel said he would go through local courts for an extradition hearing on felony theft charges in California. The Sentinel quoted assistant U.S. Attorney Wyatt Angelo. Neither Angelo nor Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger returned calls Saturday, but Jeff Dorschner, Denver spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office in Colorado, confirmed the newspaper report.

The New York City-based Hsu has been a top fundraiser for Democratic candidates, including U.S. Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama, donating $260,000 to Democratic Party groups and federal candidates since 2004, according to Federal Election Commission records.

Samantha Moe, spokeswoman for St. Mary’s Hospital, said Hsu remained in fair condition. She said she could release no other information.

Hospital officials have declined to say what ails Hsu, or why Amtrak officials called the local fire department on Thursday to report a passenger had become ill on the California Zephyr. Police did not even go to the train station on the call.

Later that day, however, FBI officials in San Francisco called St. Mary’s and said a patient there was wanted on federal fugitive charges. The FBI did not say how they knew he had been hospitalized.

    She did?!?!?!?

Well, you’ll have to excuse me Jason, you see…I get my news from the ‘mainstream media,’ not those crazy radicals, and well…they didn’t think this story was good enough to publish in the first place. So I guess they felt like doing a story about how she gave the money back would be silly, you know, seeing how they didn’t report the contribution from a convict in the first place.

Now that I know she gave back the money after Hsu was busted in Colorado…quick…somebody give her a medal!!!
